First, I want to apologize for not being as active with my recipe sharing as I’d like to be. I have friends begging me for recipes, and…well, with 5 month old and 5 year old little boys, it is harder than I thought to find the time to cook, photograph, write, edit, etc. etc. Luckily, Deven the man is in kindergarten and Baby Bodhi is sound asleep right now, and the inspiration has struck me…laundry be damned! So please stick with me, and stay on top of me to bring more cooking and health to you! Now, onto my broth!
I’ve made chicken bone broth many times, but this right here folks is the real deal. Ameesh and I have had cuts of beef from a quarter-cow we went in on a while ago, and the very last thing in our freezer was a GIANT soup bone. Bones, actually. I made short ribs a few days ago and had those bones, too, and I wasn’t gonna let any of them go to waste. Why? Because bone broth has some amazing health benefits. And like all things healthy these days that get picked up by mainstreamers, it’s now being found in stores (yay!), but is really expensive (aww, man.) So, obviously making your own is the biggest win.
So what’s so great about homemade bone broth you ask?
It has been one year folks. One year since I took a break from this site to grow a baby, birth a baby, and get through the first couple months of said baby’s life.
But I miss you guys. I miss writing about the food I’m making. If you’ve been following me on Instagram (caitlins_cupboard), you know I’ve still been busy in the kitchen. I have goals, and I need to organize, but I want to come back here with recipes for you all to enjoy! So stay tuned. In the meantime, I will leave you with a wonderful little tea/tonic recipe to get you through the upcoming sniffly months.
We love to make fun of “Pumpkin Spice Season,” but in reality…we all secretly love it. Right? Right?! It is just a delicious flavor, and I’d be happy to eat it all year round, but the warming spices of cinnamon, ginger, cloves and allspice really do lend themselves to chilly weather quite well. There IS a reason we are drawn to these things in the fall and winter; they are heat-inducing spices. They actually make you feel warm and cozy!
I know, the name seems a little confusing. But this dish sort of meets you halfway between pumpkin pie and a piece of cake.
I have a confession: I suck at baking.
I don’t like to follow directions. My ego wants me to put a bunch of ingredients in a bowl, wave a magic wand, and create something delicious. It’s easier to do this with savory dinners in a pot on a stove than it is in baking. Baking is actual science where the difference between one teaspoon and two makes or breaks the dish.
Hi friends! I hope this summer has been going swimmingly for you. We have a few weeks left to enjoy (or curse) heat. In these dog days, frozen treats are pretty irresistible. They are usually pretty sugar-packed, too. But these frozen fruit pops can assuage your guilt because not only do they have a delicious mango flavor, they also get a boost from heavy metal chelators, parsley and cilantro. And there’s some cucumber and gelatin in there for added nutrition, protein, and gut healing properties, too! The mango adds a punch of vitamins C and A, immune system powerhouses.
For these popsicles, I did bust out the juicer AND the blender.
